Overview

Salt ‘N' Vinegar Fish Chips, located on 1 Fosters Rd in Keilor Park, stands as a steadfast local favorite for classic fish and chips fare. This corner shop embraces the traditional vibe, delivering a heartfelt experience that resonates with both longtime patrons and newcomers to the area.

The hallmark of this spot is its fish and chips—golden, crisp, and cooked to perfection every time. Beyond the fish fry, Salt ‘N' Vinegar offers noteworthy menu highlights like the steak sandwich. Served in simple white toasted bread with fresh salad toppings and a touch of mayo and tomato sauce, it strikes a nostalgic chord reminiscent of classic takeaway eateries. The steak is flavorful with just a hint of gristle, reflecting the genuine, honest cooking you expect from a traditional corner shop.

The atmosphere is casual and welcoming. While occasional lively characters have been noted, the owners’ warmth and willingness to engage create a friendly neighborhood feel. They never appear rushed, always ready to greet or bid farewell, enhancing the sense of community that the space fosters.

This restaurant caters well to locals craving quick, satisfying meals that evoke comfort without pretension. Its cash-only policy may require preparation, but the efficiency and quality make up for it. In sum, Salt ‘N' Vinegar Fish Chips stands as a testament to traditional Australian fish and chip shops—simple, effective, and deeply rooted in neighborhood charm. Cash only - However, fish and chips were fried to perfection. Perfect inside and out. I however, recommend ordering takeaway as there was particularly noisy experience with a old woman complaining about Souvlaki's (which my greek father has given his highest honour for) Owners are great people. Never too busy to welcome you and wave you goodbye.

My husband and I have just moved into the area. He stopped for some dinner after a haircut in the same strip of shops. Chips were perfection! Not soggy or too oily, perfect crunch. The rest of our food was tasty too. We found the prices to be quite reasonable. We look forward to coming back again soon

Ordered the steak sandwich here today, good old fashioned steak sanga almost with the lot, between two white sliced toasted breads. Despite the amenity of this place, the steak was easy to eat, only a little gristle, which i expect is standard for the old corner fish and chip shop, but very tasty with all fresh salad items and especially when i added the tomato sauce and mayo. Soooo cheap too, $11. Will be back.

I was recently at this place and the fish and chips here were unparalleled. The burgers and souvlakis were excellent - this is a great place for anyone who wants the casual hood fish fry. My only complaint was that the other day, there was a very annoying woman who came in and started complaining about their souvlakis. Suffice to say, she must have been smoking something out of the ordinary. In fact, I would not be surprised if her name was Karen, because that's how she was acting. Anyhow, definitely would recommend this place. They make the fish and chips nice, quick and aggressive, just how I like it!
